Michi Weiss 3rd at XTerra WC 09

In the XTERRA (all-terrain Triathlon) World Championship on Maui (Hawaii) Michi Weiss finished in third place, just two weeks after the Ironman World Championship in Kona (also Hawaii) where he finished 25th.

Weiss exited the 1.5 km Pacific Ocean swim in 0:23:44. He powered through the mountain bike portion of the race and earned the fastest bike split (1:29:16) on his Cannondale Scalpel. At the end of the 30 km bike course, which led competitors through the Maui lava fields and forests, Michi Weiss had moved up to 5th place. Weiss had a fantastic 11 km run through very difficult terrain (beach and jungle) and passed two other competitors to obtain his podium finish.

In addition, Weiss took second in the overall standings, consisting of "Ironman Hawaii" and "XTerra Maui. Michael commented after crossing the Maui finishline: "I can not believe all that I have now done. I never thought it would be possible to deliver such a perfoance just two weeks after the Ironman on Big Island."
