Michi still leads Pikes Peak Winter Series

The 5 mile race began at 10am with mild, but windy conditions. The trail conditions were similar to the first series race, in Cheyenne Mountain State Park, with deep and sometimes slippery snow.
Michael Weiss,
the Winter Series race leader, entered the event as part of his triathlon training regimen and was prepared for the hazardous terrain with 1/4'” spiked race shoes. Weiss ran strong from the start line and led for the first mile. He was then passed by Justin Chaston, a former Steeple Chase Olympian from the UK. Weiss maintained second position and finished the snowy five mile run in 29:21, exactly one minute behind Chaston.

Michi's second place finish secures his position as the Winter Series leader and he will have one race remaining on February 26th in Black Forest to defend the series title.
