This past Saturday was the final race in the 2011 Pikes Peak Road Runners' Winter Series. The finale took place in Black Forest, just north of Colorado Springs, and featured a 10K course on over 7000 ft (2100m) elevation. The terrain was mostly made up of very hilly dirt roads and racers faced gusty cold winds with temperatures in the low 40s F.
Michael Weiss showed up to defend his title as the short course series leader and delivered another outstanding performance. Michael represented his local sponsors, Boulder Running Company and SRM, and led the 10K field finishing first in 34:59mins, exactly one and a half minutes ahead of second place finisher Pat McGuire.
Next and also last running competition before Michael's triathlon season starts will be the "Saint Patrick's Day 5k" downtown Colorado Springs on Saturday, March 12.
