The 4th Annual SuperSeal Triathlon took place this morning at Silver Strand State Beach Bay on California's Coronado Island. The race was an Olympic distance triathlon consisting of a 1,500 meter ocean swim, 40 kilometer bike along the peninsula, and a 10 kilometer run over a gravel trail way.
Michael Weiss, last year's race winner, arrived this morning to defend his 2010 Champion title. This would be Michi's first triathlon of the season and many were anxious to see how his winter training in Colorado had prepared him for the upcoming race season.
The SuperSeal swim began at 8:00am and Weiss exited the water just 78 seconds behind the leader. Once on the bike, Michael demonstrated his incredible speed and power as a cyclist. He rode an average of 370 watts and finished the bike in approximately 52 minutes with a five minute lead on second place competitor, Adam Zucco. Weiss remained a very comfortable leader and maintained a 5:30 minute mile during the run in an effort to save his legs for next weekend's race in Oceanside, California.
Michael Weiss finished first with a time of 1:50:33, more than 6 minutes ahead of second place finisher, Adam Zucco, in 1:57:13, followed closely by third place finisher, Trevor Glavin. Weiss was thrilled with his performance and is extremely motivated for his upcoming races, Rohto Ironman 70.3 Oceanside and Nautica Miami.
"I feel so strong both mentally and physically going into 2011,” Michi commented. "I have amazing sponsors this year who support me and my goals in triathlon."
Michael went on to thank his friends, family, and supporters at the awards ceremony following the race and will recover in Encinitas for the challenging Oceanside triathlon on April 2nd.
