4th at Ironman Melbourne

The Ironman Asia-Pacific Championship in Melbourne Australia proved to be an excellent start to Michael's 2014 season. After several long winter training months in snowy and harsh New England conditions the Lower Austrian delivered an epic performance amidst an elite field Down Under. Weiss finished 4th overall with the fastest bike split (4:20:50 h) and 3rd fastest marathon (2:45:17)!

Coming out of the 2.4 mile ocean swim, Michael was nearly 7 minutes behind the leader. Once on the bike, he was able to close some of the gap, but the front group remained just out of his reach and he entered T2 with around a 5 minute deficit. Michael unleashed his recently-developed running strength on the marathon and continued to reel-in the leaders as the finish line approached.

A thrilling finish saw the first five Pro men run into the finish shoot less than five minutes apart! Weiss finished 4th in 8:03:46, just 40 seconds off 3rd place finisher, David Dellow, and 2:44 minutes from race Champion, Dirk Bockel. Three-time Ironman World Champion, Craig Alexander, followed Michael just two minutes later for the fifth place spot.
