11th at Ironman 70.3 St.George

The Ironman 70.3 US Championship in St. George, Utah was an especially challenging day for Michael as his first half Ironman since 2011. After already racing two full Ironman events (1st in Cozumel and 4th in Melbourne) in the past five months the Lower Austrian delivered a strong, consistent performance amongst a stellar National Championship field. Weiss finished 11th overall with the fastest bike split (2:07:32h) and a half marathon time of 1:12:44h.

Coming out of the 1.2 mile cold Sandy Hollow Reservoir swim, Michael was nearly 4 minutes behind the leaders. Once on the 52 mile bike, he was able to close some of the gap together with fellow "uber-cyclist" Sebastian Kienle, but the front group remained still out of reach as they entered T2. Michael maintained focus and perseverance on the hilly run course, but despite his best efforts was not able to reel in the leaders on this day.

Weiss looks forward to the next 70.3 attempt, his home race, in St. Pölten, Austria on May 25th.
