On Saturday August 20th XeNTiS will host their annual triathlon in the spectacular setting of Piberstein.
The sprint distance event is Michael's first race since he took second place in Ironman Austria at the end of June, making this local favorite race a perfect kick-off for the "Road to Kona."
"Actually, I'm more like a diesel engine,” Weiss jokes when asked how an ‘Ironman' will fare in such a short distance competition. In the sprint distances are 750m swim, 20km bike, and 5km run.
“Typically my body and fitness is suited to long distance endurance racing, but it is always beneficial (and fun) to mix in some high intensity high speed racing."
There will be other high-calibar athletes joining Weiss on the XeNTiS start line tomorrow. “Yes, I’m looking forward to some speedy and tough competition,” he adds. “And racing in my beautiful country amongst friends and family is always a huge bonus for me."
The weather forecast promises perfect conditions, but this is to be expected as the XeNTiS triathlon has seen one rainy race in 19 years!
Weiss, now 3x Ironman Champion, will travel to Cozumel, Mexico in September and continue training for the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii.
"The conditions in Cozumel are hot, humid, and ideal for a Kona lead-up. I stay at El Cozumeleno Beach Resort, a partner of mine now, the facility and staff provide great support for athletes.”
"I am motivated for the XeNTiS Triathlon and ready to ramp up for Kona – let the games begin!"
